All-time greats on the Hochkönig Walk of Fame

Austria is a winter sport nation. World Cup, World Championships or Winter Olympics, local athletes celebrate grand wins if snow is involved. The Mile of Alpine Stars on the Hochkönig between Maria Alm and the mountain inn Hinterreit is dedicated to them as well as to international stars. This walk of fame can be explored and admired during a snug winter walk.

A monument to alpine skiing greats

Inspired by the 1.5-km-long Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, the Mile of Alpine Stars honours alpine skiing greats. Many of them used to train and still train on the race track at the Hinterreit ski lifts in Maria Alm, where they got in shape for peak World Cup and Olympic performances. Artificially rusted, two-metre-high pillars rise into the air along the path. Each of them is dedicated to a different legend of alpine skiing. The individual pillars feature the athlete’s handprint and an information board listing her/his biggest athletic successes.

Hike the Mile of Alpine Stars and marvel at the achievements of skiing greats, such as Marlies and Benni Raich, Fritz Strobl, Maria Höfl-Riesch, Alexandra Meissnitzer, Fritz Strobl, Aksel Lund Svindal, Thomas Stangassinger or Nicole Hosp.
